Sergey Katyrin: Overcoming the negative trend of falling trade turnover should become one of the priority areas for the chambers of Russia and Kyrgyzstan

An online meeting was held between the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia Sergei Katyrin and the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan represented by the President of the Chamber of Commerce Marat Sharshekeyev and Vice- presidents Roman Kasymov and Elmira Batayeva. The event was also attended by the Vice-president of the CCI of Russia Vladimir Padalko and the Director of the Center for Public Relations and Mass Media CCI of Russia Alexander Shkirando.

At the beginning of the meeting, the parties exchanged congratulations on the successfully passed congresses of the chambers and the elections of governing bodies (in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan, the congress was held in December 2020, and in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation on February 26, 2021).

The head of the CCI of Russia, Sergei Katyrin, noted that the parties have at least five years of fruitful joint work ahead of them. He drew attention to the fact that the bilateral foreign trade turnover has been declining for three years in a row and is now below the level of 2013. Therefore, one of the priority areas of joint activities should be overcoming the negative trend of falling trade turnover.

In turn, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan Marat Sharshekeyev expressed interest in mutually beneficial cooperation and in the projects presented. Speaking about the internal problems facing the Kyrgyz economy, he noted the main topical priority of business - political stability.

Vice-President of the RF CCI Vladimir Padalko spoke about the consistently high level of interaction between Russian regions and Kyrgyz business circles. In 2019-2020 about 10 joint events, forums, conferences, and meetings were held in full-time and online format. He noted the active work of the Russian-Kyrgyz Business Council calling for an intensification and intensification of mutual activities and proposing to reconcile a step-by-step map of joint activities of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, in particular, through the EAEU and the SCO.

Vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan Elvira Batayeva informed about a number of recent initiatives being implemented jointly with Russian regions and chambers of commerce and industry. Thus at a recent meeting with the President of the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry Andrei Besedin, an agreement was reached to open in Kyrgyzstan a trading house of the Urals and a trading house of Kyrgyzstan in Yekaterinburg, where a Kyrgyz business exhibition is planned to be held in May. A large Russian-Kyrgyz business forum will be also held in May in the Novosibirsk region.

Concluding the meeting, Sergey Katyrin confirmed the high interest of Russian entrepreneurs in developing cooperation with Kyrgyz business.
